Again, you could very much feel the water level dropping and the walls getting closer and closer to us as we lowered more to their level. After sitting in the room for a few minutes, we decided it would probably be a few minutes and we would be able to see it coming anyway. That’s the nice thing about watching everything from the back of the ship.

Carnival Cruise Line Panama Canal Departure Ports
If you want to be able to watch anything from your room, this is not a cruise for a guaranteed stateroom. The aft balcony was amazing because we were able to stay on our own balcony with all our own things, space, camera batteries, fridge full of water and bathroom. If you get a regular balcony, make sure you get one on the right or starboard side of the ship. First of all, this is the side that is in the middle so you can see the other ships going the opposite direction. Secondly, the sun was on the left (port) in both directions. Because we went one direction in the morning and back in the afternoon, the left side of the ship was hot and in the sun both times.

Those on "partial crossings" or simply docked at Colon might consider completing the crossing in a smaller boat. This popular shore excursion begins at Gamboa, one of the towns along the Canal. It takes passengers through the remaining two Canal locks, all the way to the Pacific Ocean. A motorcoach ride delivers passengers back to their waiting ships at Colon. November can be rainy — and even the rainiest month of the wet season — with temperatures starting to warm closer to December. The month brings a mix of low-priced early-season fares but also several public holidays that bring crowds of both tourists and residents to attractions in places like Panama City and Boquete.
Day 7: Fun Day at Sea
See one of Costa Rica's renowned rain forests at Pura Vida Gardens, or climb a set of wooden steps up to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens. If you want the best pricing and fewer crowds, October and November are the rainy season, so the pricing will be lower — and you'll avoid the holiday crowds and high fares in December. If having the best weather is your top priority, January, February and early March offer the best weather during the dry season with low humidity — but it's also the most expensive time to travel to the region. You can expect crowds, especially with the festivals during that time. With the warmer temperatures, March is an ideal month to head to the beaches on one of the San Blas Islands, an archipelago of about 365 islands and cays off the Caribbean coast of Eastern Panama. Some cruise lines that visit the archipelago are Windstar, Star Clippers, Hapag-Lloyd and Ponant.

Not only does this ship visit stunning destinations, but features incredible onboard spaces inspired by elements of fantasy. Escape from reality as you take in a show at the Phantom Lounge or a dance at Dr. Frankenstein's Lab. To lose yourself in a song, find your way to Sam's Piano Bar.
Vacation Deals
Most of the major lines and some smaller ones offer at least a few Panama Canal sailings each season. The best time to go is after the rainy season ends in November. Late March and April also offer lower fares as it's the beginning of the rainy season, but you can expect crowds during the Holy Week festivities in the country.

Our experience through the Panama Canal on the Carnival Pride:
We sailed a partial transit of the Panama Canal on the Carnival Pride in April 2022. This is a review of our experience plus some tips for a Panama Canal Partial Transit on a Carnival Cruise. Carnival Cruises has a range of Panama Canal cruises leaving from different ports in the US, including Tampa, New Orleans and Galveston. March is also the last month for surfing enthusiasts to hit the big waves on the Caribbean and Pacific coasts. Take advantage of the final weeks of the dry season to book active outdoor adventure excursions like hiking, kayaking and zip lining. Another option is the Rainforest and Aerial Tram tour to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort in the 55,000-acre Soberania National Park.
In Quepos, Costa Rica, Windstar Cruises offers rafting trips to the town of Santo Domingo, where you can take a float trip on the Savegre River. Experienced surfers can also check out the big swells on both coasts of the country. It used to be that only smaller Panamax ships could squeeze through the locks of the Panama Canal. However, with the opening of a new set of locks in 2016, larger New-Panamax-sized ships can transit, as well. That means you take a Panama Canal cruise on a small-masted Windstar ship or luxury Silversea cruise or can sail on a megaship as large as the 1,094-foot-long and 136-foot-wide Norwegian Bliss. The Panama Canal cruise season peaks between October and April, outside of the rainy season that can start as early as mid-March and extend into the fall.
Pricing includes airfare, gratuities and complimentary wine and beer with lunch and dinner. With four pools (including an adults-only aft Serenity Pool), a WaterWorks aqua park, Camp Ocean kids club and seven restaurants, the ship offers enough diversions for sea-day fun, even at half the size of Carnival's newest megaships. A Panama Canal transit is a rite of passage for many cruise lovers. Experiencing this marvel of early 20th-century engineering appeals to those with a wide array of interests, from history and politics to colonial architecture and wildlife spotting. Built by the U.S. government between 1903 and 1914, this 50-mile waterway linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans revolutionized shipping by creating an expedited route for the transit of cargo and, ultimately, cruise ship passengers.
A visit to the Tabacon Resort Hot Springs takes you to the slopes of the active Arenal volcano. The Poas volcano features the amazing sight of a huge crater filled with iridescent blue water. Walk through a cloud forest at Villa Blanca, where you're surrounded by mist and water droplets clinging to the vegetation.
The largest waterpark at sea in Australia, mini-golf, two-deck fitness center, jogging track and sports court, Serenity Adult-Only Retreat™, day spa and pools and spas. Keep the kids entertained with three different age-appropriate youth programs, giving them plenty of choice on activities and the opportunity to make new friends. Some see Colón as the gateway city to the Panama Canal, the engineering wonder linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Others know it as the second-largest duty-free port in all of the Caribbean, and a great base for exploring the canal and Panama’s nearby ecological treasures. On your Carnival cruise to Colón, you’ll see it from all sides — enjoy a side of shop-‘till-you-drop as you spy the brilliant plumage of a toucan in rainforest greenery. At Alchemy Bar® we make drinks into art, while the laid-back RedFrog Pub™ has "Caribbean cool" down to a science.
